Why We Care
Acacia cares about enabling older adults to live more independently. Why? Consider these facts:
- Orange County is home to 374,000 seniors over the age of 60.
- 40% of Orange County seniors are currently living with a disability.
- Each older person with a disability will receive an average of 30 unpaid hours of care per week by a family member/caregiver.
- As disabilities increase, they will receive an average of 60 unpaid hours of care per week by a family member/caregiver.
The majority of older adults who enter nursing homes do so because of caregiver exhaustion, and not due to a deteriorating condition. Long-term care is a drastic, and often unnecessary, solution when a family may only need supportive services, like those that Acacia provides.
The need to provide services for older adults and persons with disabilities will only continue to grow as the Baby Boomers reach retirement age. Acacia Adult Day Services strives to be a part of the solution that helps seniors maintain a higher level of independence, while providing caregivers with some much-needed respite.
